Hot Melt Adhesive is widely used for labeling plastic bottles, such as those for Coca-Cola and Wahaha beverages. This application typically involves bonding PP or PE plastic films to polyethylene plastic bottles (e.g., PET, PE, PP). The strip application process is commonly employed, requiring the hot melt adhesive to exhibit excellent temperature resistance and smooth application performance. In terms of color, transparent variants are generally preferred for optimal visual appeal.
Temperature Resistance Requirements
Transport Stability: During container transportation, the internal temperature can reach 60–70°C. The adhesive must remain stable under these conditions—without flowing, losing tack, or oozing.
Cold Storage Adaptability: For refrigerated products, the adhesive should remain flexible, avoiding brittleness and label detachment.
Thus, hot melt adhesives for labeling must perform reliably in both high and low-temperature environments.
Key Application Considerations
The strip application process is precise and efficient, requiring fast dispensing, low adhesive weight per point, and a small cross-section. To ensure smooth operation, the adhesive should feature:
Low melt viscosity for even dispensing;
No stringing, which could otherwise affect appearance and damage equipment, increasing maintenance costs.
Usage Recommendations
Optimal Application Temperature: Lower viscosity adhesives allow for reduced melting temperatures, while slightly increasing nozzle temperature helps minimize stringing.
Balance Line Speed and Adhesive Amount: Excessive speed may lead to insufficient adhesive and label detachment, while slow speeds can cause over-application and oozing.
