Classification of Butyl Sealants and Detailed Features of the Hot-Melt Type

Butyl sealants are primarily categorized into vulcanized, non-vulcanized, and hot-melt types. The non-vulcanized type can be further divided into solvent-evaporation, pre-formed tape, and butyl sealant paste (mastic). The solvent-evaporation type is manufactured through mixing, shredding, and dissolving processes; pre-formed tape is produced by mixing and extrusion; and sealant paste can be made via dissolution or a three-roll mill grinding method. Butyl sealants are widely used in various machinery, pipelines, glass installation, cable joint sealing, as well as in construction and water conservancy projects.

Hot-melt butyl sealant is a single-component, solvent-free, non-fogging, non-curing, and permanently plastic primary sealant for insulating glass, based on polyisobutylene rubber. It maintains its plasticity and sealing properties over a wide temperature range without surface cracking or hardening. It adheres well to materials such as glass, aluminum alloy, galvanized steel, and stainless steel. Due to its extremely low moisture vapor transmission rate, it can form an excellent moisture-resistant system when combined with elastic sealants.

The features of hot-melt butyl sealant include: effective sealing with easily assured quality; no curing period required, saving space; an environmentally friendly product that eliminates waste and keeps the workspace clean; and time, material, and labor savings, effectively reducing production costs.
