Extrusion Process of Butyl Rubber Automotive Weatherstrips

Rubber weatherstrips are widely used in passenger vehicles. Traditional main materials include rubber and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. As the primary raw material for rubber weatherstrips, various rubbers such as chloroprene rubber (CR) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber can be selected. In recent years, EPDM rubber has been extensively chosen as the main raw material for weatherstrips due to its superior weather resistance, among other characteristics.

As part of the vehicle body's auxiliary systems, the weatherstrip system contributes to both the interior and exterior trim systems of passenger cars. Therefore, weatherstrips possess both functional and decorative roles. Generally, the weatherstrip system serves the following functions: 1) Filling gaps; 2) Absorbing and reducing vibrations; 3) Isolating noise, preventing the penetration of water, dust, etc., into the cabin to ensure riding comfort; 4) Providing channels for the movement of movable components; 5) Compensating for errors in sheet metal manufacturing and assembly; 6) Reducing wind and rain noise, etc.

As a visible exterior component, the weatherstrip system also serves a decorative purpose. It contributes to the vehicle's Class-A surfaces, forming a coordinated and unified interior theme.
