Precautions for the Use and Maintenance of Hot Melt Coating Machines

A Hot Melt Coating Machine is a device that melts solvent-free, water-free, 100% solid fusible hot melt adhesive by heating it in the melter, coating it onto a substrate, and then laminating another substrate with the coated one. It requires no drying equipment and has low energy consumption. Being solvent-free, it causes no pollution, and operators are not exposed to large amounts of formaldehyde when cleaning residual glue, making it environmentally friendly and safe.

Compared with traditional solvent-based and water-based adhesives, the hot melt coating process offers advantages in efficiency, effectively solving inherent drawbacks of traditional processes. It is an ideal production tool for upgrading the coating and laminating industry.

So, what are the safety precautions when using a hot melt coating machine?

Safety Precautions:

Avoid Hazardous Environments: Do not operate the hot melt coating machine near volatile or explosive materials or gases.

Ensure Proper Protection: Do not operate the machine without appropriate protective devices, good insulation, or proper protective panels. Maintenance and repairs requiring disassembly should only be carried out by trained professionals, and must be done with appropriate protective devices, good insulation, and protective panels in place.

Maintain Suitable Ambient Temperature: Avoid operating the machine in ambient temperatures below 0°C (32°F) or above 50°C (122°F).

Minimize Airflow: Try to operate the machine where there is no fast-flowing air. When the hot melt gun assembly is exposed to rapid air currents, rapid cooling can affect the adhesive flow from the assembly, making stringing (stringing) more likely.

Proper Adhesive Replenishment: Replenish hot melt adhesive when there is at least one-third of the adhesive left in the tank. Avoid adding adhesive when the tank is empty, as this can affect normal production. The amount of adhesive added should not exceed 80% of the machine's total tank volume.

Maintenance Work:

Qualified Personnel: Disassembly and maintenance of the hot melt coating machine must be carried out by qualified professionals.

Wear Protective Gear: When performing maintenance or repairs on the hot melt coating machine, you must wear safety gloves, goggles, and long-sleeved work clothes to prevent burns from high-temperature liquid hot melt adhesive or hot component surfaces.

Disconnect Power: Before maintaining or repairing the hot melt coating machine, disconnect the main power supply and do not work on it with power connected. Under no circumstances should you touch wires that may be exposed or other electrical connections.

Clean Tank Properly: When cleaning the melt tank, avoid using open flames or sharp, hard tools to prevent scratching the Teflon non-stick coating inside the tank.

Handle Leaks Immediately: If an air pressure leak or adhesive leak occurs from the machine, do not continue operating it. First, stop the machine, cut off the power, and reduce the operating pressure to zero before performing any inspections or repairs.

Depressurize Before Servicing: When loosening or installing pressure connections, you must ensure that the pressure from the air source supplying the hot melt coating machine has been reduced to zero.
